The ADVAGUARD™ firewall is built on our own version of OpenBSD system, a proactively secure Unix-like operating system. OpenBSD's goal, quoting the openbsd.org web site, is "..to be NUMBER ONE in the industry for security (if we are not already there). Our open software development model permits us to take a more uncompromising view towards increased security than Sun, SGI, IBM, HP, or other vendors are able to".

Excellent code quality and consistent audit procedures make OpenBSD the best choice for the base OS for ADVAGUARD™.

The core security technology used by ADVAGUARD™ is "application proxy firewalling", the ONLY TECHNOLOGY that fulfils the highest security requirements.

Our "crystal box" development model makes independent code analysis and audit possible, thus increasing overall system security.

Performance

The BSD-derived IP stack used in the ADVAGUARD™ firewall (as well as in many commercial Unix systems) has been unmatched in performance for years. Data processing overhead is minimized: it is doubtful that things our design does can be done much faster. If there is a system that appears to perform better, on a similar hardware platform, then probably it skips some vital part of data analysis.

Integration

The firewall concept should not be thought of as a standalone box, it is part of network security infrastructure, which includes VPN and crypto support, centralized configuration management, log archival, audit and reporting and more. ADVAGUARD™ has IPSec VPN functions built-in, thus making PKI integration simple and easy; transport layer security features are based on SSL/TLS standards which involves similar certificate management technology. All configuration files are in plain text format, so changes tracking and version control is easy. Remote log storage and processing is performed via syslog-reliable compliant transport and such additional feature, as WELF export, allows third-party log analysis tools to be used in conjunction with ADVAGUARD™ firewall.

Manageability

A key design object is transparent configuration. That means there will be no unpredicted consequences or obscure feature behaviour when you manage your ADVAGUARD™ firewall. This holds true whether management is carried out through direct configuration file changes or via GUI.

ADVAGUARD™ is a rapidly evolving product. At the ADVA RESEARCH CENTRE we consider development priority management an important aspect of our efforts to be responsive to customer needs.
